Why a doctor friend left his job for childless mothers, and what our clinic has seen since 2012

A friend of mine, a doctor trained in conventional medicine, told me he had left his job. He now spends his time helping women who cannot get pregnant. Two experiences pushed him to make that choice.

Two Stories That Changed a Doctor's Path

Years earlier he was the head doctor at a hospital that served one of the country's security forces. Two of his patients there had advanced cancer.

The first was surrounded by his children and other young people who cared for him day and night. They came and went, washed him and kept him company. Despite his pain, he was clean, calm and comforted.

The second had nobody. Apart from the nurses and doctors, no one came. Late-stage cancer can cause a strong smell, and with no one to bathe him or help with daily care, his suffering was plain to see. Some colleagues wanted to discharge him. My friend refused: caring for him was their duty. While my friend was away on a work trip, the patient was discharged anyway. Weak, he walked slowly from the hospital, sat down under a tree to rest, and died there. Soldiers passing by found him and reported it to the hospital.

The lesson my friend took was simple. When you are very sick and have no one to stand up for you, life can become unbearably hard.

The second experience came from a woman who told him she had spent more than 30 million shillings at a national hospital trying to conceive. Each visit brought a new bill: two million here, more there. She never became pregnant.

That was when he decided to give his life to helping women have children, so that in old age they would have people to care for them. His very first patient was that same woman. For about 300,000 shillings, she became pregnant.

What We Have Seen at Herbal Impact

His story moved me because it matches what we have seen at Herbal Impact, our licensed traditional medicine clinic in Kitumbini, Dar es Salaam. Since 2012, many mothers have come to us after losing hope, and many have gone on to give birth after using our herbal tea, Haiiba Timam Tea.

The tea is made from edible plants only and is brewed at home like ordinary tea. It was developed by Juma Killaghai, a natural products research chemist since 1995. It touches many areas of health, but this article focuses on the problems mothers bring to us most often.

Women's Health Problems Our Patients Have Reported Improving

These are reports from our patients, not results of clinical trials, and results vary from woman to woman.

The tea works best alongside hospital care, not instead of it.

"But Aren't Herbs Bad for the Kidneys?"

Some people fear herbal remedies, believing they damage the kidneys or other organs. We understand that fear. Our view, after more than 30 years in natural products research, is that edible plants are natural materials the body already knows as food. That is why Haiiba Timam Tea uses edible plants only. From our experience since 2012, women of all ages have used it safely. If you take other medicines, tell your doctor you are drinking it.

How to Prepare Haiiba Timam Tea

  1. Use a small thermos flask that holds 2–3 cups.
  2. Put one tablespoon of the tea into the flask.
  3. Boil 3 cups of water, pour it in and close the lid tightly.
  4. Leave it to steep for 30 minutes.
  5. Drink all of it within 4 hours.

Drink it twice a day: in the morning on an empty stomach, and in the evening before or after a meal. One 200 g packet lasts 7 days. For all four problems, 5 consecutive weeks is usually enough, so a full course is 5 packets.
